Seagull....my first bird.

On our art forum, Painting Friends, we have a challenge called Friday Foto.  This is from this week's pic.  I did him in pastels on the smooth side of Mi-Teintes paper.  It's my first bird in any medium, so I'm pretty happy with him.  I do need some different blues for water.  Got to look into that!

Good job, Deb! I like the pose of the bird and how you painted in the shadows on the railing. I am sure this will not be your last bird since the first one has turned out so nicely.

He's beautiful Deb!
I love birds, but have never (yet) attempted to draw or paint one. I did make one in clay, to attach to a limb sculpture, and I found it a bit difficult.I love the shape of yours, and of course the shadow is super,,,,You're doing great work in pastel!

Christiane, thanks so much. The ref pic is one that was on our art forum, Painting Friends. I do plan to do some more. I have a neat winter shot of some geese I may try.

Babs, glad you like it. One of the things I'm happy about is that I drew him myself. Lots of time I'll trace so I can get to painting, but I'm really trying not to do that so I will learn how to draw. I felt really good about that with this one!
