My first pastel abstract....

Most of what I see out there from pastel artists are representational paintings and I really love them, but for some reason, I just can't resist the abstracts.  So here's my first shot at it.  It's 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 on Belgian Mist Wallis with a watercolor underpainting.

There is such freedom in working with the pastels.  They are very forgiving and I'm really enjoying learning how to mix and layer colors.  More to come for sure!!!!

Horizontal or vertical?  Can't decide!

Very interesting colors and textures, Deb! I like the idea of adding pastels to a watercolor underpainting...this opens a lot of possibilities!
