Acrylic Encaustic?

I really want to mess with encaustic painting someday and am planning on taking a mini-workshop in November at R&F Handmade Paints in Kingston, NY. It sounds like a great deal....the cost includes the use of all the paints. I can't wait to try it out. Just got the fantastic and inspiring book Encaustic Workshop by Patricia Baldwin Seggebrauch to hold me over. :)

In the meantime, I've been experimenting with faux encaustic using various acrylic mediums as described in Rethinking Acrylic by Patti Brady. Here are a couple I just did mainly to try out the properties of the various mixes. They are both on claybord, one 6"x6" and the other 5"x7". The 2nd one has my sister's (photographer Roberta Fair) macros as a first layer.

Hi Deb, I found your blog through Randy Carboni. I recognized your avatar! I like what you're doing with the faux encaustic. They're sort of mysterious and make me want to look awhile!.=

Hi Peggy. Thanks so much for your encouragement. Sorry it took me so long to answer. Been in an art funk. Muse went south. She's finally back! :)
