Fall is my favorite season. I love all the colors, the weather change, the scents. It seems that my body is programed for it. Maybe it comes from living most of my life in the north east. I remember when I lived for a short time in California, when September came, I was ready for autumn. I started craving cider and apples. I longed for the cooler nights. My friend, Carol, kept saying I'd see the change, but I never did. I was glad to get home!This one is watercolor on 1/4 sheet of 300lb. Fabriano Artistico paper. After doing an initial wash in Quin. Gold, I applied paint to the leaves and pressed them onto the paper.

Glad you like it Randy. It was a hit today at work so I'll have to be doing more. It feels good to be picking up my brushes. I hate those slumps!
I love fall too. It really must be living in the north east, but also in the Hudson River Valley. You know it is rated the best place in the world to view fall foliage? We get the color change in the trees out here, but its not the same. There aren't the hills and valleys that let you really see the colors the way the Hudson River Valley does. The drive up to church does allow somewhat of a view, but its just not the same.
A good friend of mine out here is an artist (not a student). He's got a painting in his house of the fall colors which I absolutely adore. Makes me think of home with its vibrant colors. Your painting has a darker, more muted feel to it. But it really is just as beautiful. I remember doing art projects in elementary school with leaves and glue. Similiar, but obviously yours is sooo much more awesome!!
I unequivocally agree with your longing for autumn. I am enjoying the colors most. It has been so long since I've seen reds and oranges. Though my new city home has provided at least one surprise: Ginkgoes turn the most delightfully vibrant shade of yellow!
I like how you made use of the leaf veins in your piece. I think they have such an interesting geometric arrangement, which provides a contrast to the less concrete grading of the wash.

This is a lovely painting. I too really like 300lb paper….worth every penny! Did you use CP or HP. HP (fabriano) works really well for glazes and wet in wet…takes a bit of getting used to. Clever you to create leaf stencils.
