Pastel Variations Restart #1-3

I got up to about 15 of the previous pastel variations I started, but really hated the composition and was getting more and more frustrated with them because of it. I saw some variations online and emailed the artist, B Zahn Griffith, and asked if she minded if I use her composition. She was so sweet and said sure. So, I'm starting over! Here goes!

I'm planning to do them all small so I can do them quickly if I want to. They will be either 5" x 5" or 5" x 7". So far, I think I'm liking the square better, but we'll see. The first one is on Wallis paper, the second on Colourfix paper and the 3rd on hot press watercolor paper with Colourfix Primer.

Deb, i admire your patience and perseverance...and beautiful results.
All three look vey different and this probably reflects your renewed enthusiasm for the series. Could you tell us a bit more of the impact of the paper on the resulting painting?

Thanks Christiane! These were really fun to do. It's hard for me to say just yet about the paper as I'm still in a real learning mode. When I feel like I can write more about it, I will. It's one of the things I hope this exercise will teach me.

I can say that one of the frustrations I had with using the Colourfix Primer was when I used it on cold press watercolor paprer. It was not nearly as smooth as the premade Colourfix paper. The texture of the cold press was a real problem. I'm now using hot press paper and it's so much better, much more like the premade.

I'm also learning a lot about the various pastel brands. It's interesting how different they are. I'm getting to have favorites for sure.
